Welsh Language Software

Welsh language versions of the Firefox web browser, and Thunderbird Email software are available at gwelywiwr.org. We recommend both products over their Microsoft counterparts for speed, security and ease of use.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Why is my email not working?
A. There could be many reasons for this. The first thing to do is check this support page to see if there are any current problems. Information is posted here as and when it is known. If there is nothing listed, try logging into your webmail (see below for more details). If you can access and use webmail, then the chances are good that the problem is with your computer, ISP or email software, and beyond our control. If webmail is not working, or will not accept your password please submit a support ticket telling us the following information:

  • The email account you are experiencing problems with
  • The time the problems started, and if intermittent, how long it lasts.
  • Any error codes or messages you are receiving
  • An alternative email address we can contact you on if you cannot receive mail.

Q. What is the maximum size email I can send?
A. We impose a limit of 20Mb on emails through our SMTP service. This includes the email contents and any attachements.

Q.What are the email settings for my email software?
A. The following settings should be used:-

POP3(incoming) Mail server: mail.YourDomain.com (where Yourdomain.com is the domain you are setting an email account up on)
SMTP(outgoing) Mail Server: smtp.YourDomain.com
Username: Full email address e.g. youname@yourdomain.com
Password: Password that was issued to you when your email account was set up

You will also need to ensure smtp authentication is turned on. See an image of where this is done in Outlook's account properties.

Setting SMTP authentication in Outlook

1. Start Outlook / Outlook Express. From the menu, select Tools, then select Accounts.
2. Click on the appropriate account from the Mail tab.
3. Select Properties.
4. Select the Servers tab.
5. Put a check in the box titled "My server requires authentication"
6. Make certain that 'Logon using Secure Password Authentication' is UnChecked.
7.Click the 'Settings' Button net to the "My server requires authentication" checkbox and on the Outgoing Mail Server window that shows select 'Use Same settings...'
Note: make sure to check Remember password if you don't want to enter password each time you send out email.
Click OK.
Back on the Properties page, click Apply and OK to save settings and then close all dialog boxes.

Q. How do I access webmail?
A. Access webmail at batdesign.info or http://webmail.YourDomain.com, using your full email address as the username, and email account password.
